Typically, when I think of a cruise ship, I don’t think about being able to purchase a fine timepiece like IWC on it . It’s official, IWC has launched their latest boutique on the Mariner of the Seas cruise ship. This is a first for IWC and quite a pioneering and bold on their part. According to IWC CEO George Kern, “We are pleased to announce the first IWC boutique to launch on a cruise ship and we look forward to welcoming guests from around the globe to experience this exciting milestone along with IWC.”

This new boutique will house all six families that IWC has in it’s collection and will combine all  the elements of dark and white wood, glass, leather and polished stainless steel, to reinforce their brand Identity, with their core values of technical ingenuity and engineering.

I would like to sincerely congratulate IWC for this amazing new venture.  Having a boutique on sea will open many opportunities for the brand to expand their market and tell their incredible story. This ship has already set sail in Asia, servicing cruises out of Singapore and Shanghai, China.

I would love to hear from you. Please fill out the contact form  below with any questions or comments

IWC Portuguese Platinum “Tribeca Film Festival” watch

On April 10th, 2013 the IWC Platinum Portuguese unique 1/1 “Tribeca Film Festival” watch was auctioned of in NYC by Antiquorum auctioneer’s.  This watch was estimated to fetch between $20,000-$30,000 at auction, but I am thrilled to report that this watch sold for a whopping $60,000!

IWC have done something completely remarkable by auctioning off this watch and giving 100% of the proceeds to the Tribeca Film Fund. Their belief and supports for the arts, especially in Film and the future of young film makers is such an amazing gesture of hope and gratitude. I truly commend IWC for their humanity and incredible watch making and I will continue to passionately wear their products and write about their journey.

As I was watching the 2013 MTV Movie Awards last night, I spotted actor Bradley Cooper wearing a stainless steel IWC Big Pilot’s Watch.  I would like to congratulate Bradley Cooper who was the recipient of 2 MTV Movie Awards. He was dressed casually but was still wearing some sort of expensive flight jacket as he is holding the mic with one hand and his golden popcorn award with the other, you could see a glimpse of the side profile of one the most iconic watches out there today in my opinion, The IWC Big Pilot’s Watch in stainless steel.

This is great for IWC once again, having their icon on one of the hottest actors in the world. Today, celebrities don’t necessarily want glamor and opulence on their wrists, but quality and timelessness. I know Bradley Cooper has great taste in watches and he has further confirmed this by wearing one of my favorite timepieces of all time. Even though the IWC Big Pilot is anything but subtle in size, its a true classic and a real mans watch with real mechanical guts and heart.

In the latest April 2013 issue of GQ  with Jason Bateman on the Cover, he is wearing IWC on one of the pages of the style shoot.  The watch he is wearing is non other than the IWC Portuguese Chronograph in Red Gold with an Ardoise dial, ref #IW371482.

This is the perfect match for IWC, because Jason Bateman epitomizes IWC sophistication. He is an understated guy with refined taste, and doesn’t seem flashy at all and that’s what IWC is in my opinion, understated elegance with history. In the photo shoot he is wearing designer casual wear jumping in the air, and unless you are a watch head like me, you would never know that Jason Bateman is wearing a watch valued at $16,400 in Red Gold. Instead you see a subtle and casual glimpse of it.

A lot of times when you see a magazine shoot like this, the watch doesn’t match the personality at all. In this case, it couldn’t be a more appropriate fit. I would like to congratulate IWC and GQ for making the perfect choice in choosing Jason Bateman to wear the IWC Portuguese Chronograph in Red Gold with Ardoise dial in The April 2013 issue of GQ Magazine. This was done in a very classy way that will translate well to the public.

  • Self-winding
  • 44-hour power reserve when fully wound
  • Stopwatch function with minutes and seconds
  • Small hacking seconds
  • Sapphire glass, convex, antireflective coating on both sides

The Best Watch Company Website In The World for 2013 is IWC

by amitdevhanda

Screen shot 2013-03-31 at 8.09.49 AM

As we are in a digital age and most of the luxury watch brands have a strong presence online, for some reason it seems like most of them are very hard to navigate around and not user-friendly at all. You almost feel like you need a degree to know about the brand before you go to their website. I am happy to give my award for Best watch company website in the world for 2013 to IWC.

Like their incredible watches, this website is very clean and intuitive yet unassuming and provides the reader with in-depth information without being patronizing . The IWC website is one of the most useful watch websites I have ever been on.  They provide an extremely detailed and accurate representation of the current collection with pictures, technical specs and yes pricing. In my opinion there is nothing more annoying than calling a boutique or shop for a price, especially when the person on the other end of the line doesn’t have a clue what they are talking about.  IWC definitely stands out from the rest and if you want to get lost in the world of IWC and learn about their history, get the latest news, events, become a member or get connected to their concierge service you can do all of it here

I would sincerely like to congratulate IWC for winning the award for Best Watch Website for 2013 and providing amazing service, quality and information!

Since the late thirties and early nineteen forties, Luxury watch brand IWC has been making the Portuguese model. This particular model exudes timeless understated sophistication. The current IWC Portuguese Chronograph Model is available in stainless steel as well as red gold. The movement of the watch is not in-house and the displacement of the subdials crowds the number six and 12 cutting the arabic numerals off which has been a huge point of contention amongst collectors and watch enthusiasts alike. The case size is 40.9 mm which is a good size, but a little small for my liking. This watch has 44 hour power reserve and the watch has been one of their staple pieces in their core collection for years.

IWC just released the new Portuguese Chronograph Classic. The watch has been re-designed in every way from the case, dial and movement. The case is still available in red gold and stainless steel like the original. The size of the case has now gone to 42 mm size and comes in silver dial and ardoise dial variations. The dial has been completely redesigned and cleaned up, as the numbers six and twelve have been removed to make more room for the vertical subdials making it cleaner more legible. As there is more space, an added complication of date has been place at the thee o’clock position of the dial making it more classic and functional.

The new IWC Portuguese Chronograph Classic  has been fitted with an in-house movement, the IWC-manufactured 89361 calibre. The movement was developed specially to show stopped times up to 12 hours on a separate subdial, which can be read off like the time of day.  The rotor, decorated with Geneva stripes, can be seen through the transparent sapphire-glass back. All models are supplied with a Santoni strap made of alligator leather.

I love everything about this new classic Portuguese model. The improvements were definitely much-needed and welcome from a practical and technical standpoint. The price is the only thing that bugs me. The new steel model is $14,400 while the original model which is $7,900. The new red gold model is $24,200 while the original is $16,400. I know they are really two different models, but I just don’t know if the changes made to the new model justifies almost a 40 percent price difference but only time will tell.

Technical Info on the IWC Portuguese Chronograph Classic

  • Mechanical chronograph movement
  • Self-winding
  • 68-hour power reserve when fully wound
  • Date display
  • Stopwatch function with hours, minutes and seconds
  • Hour and minute counters combined in a totalizer at 12 o’clock
  • Flyback function
  • Small hacking seconds
  • Sapphire glass, arched edge, antireflective coating on both sides
  • See-through sapphire-glass back
  • Water-resistant 3 bar
  • Case height 14.5 mm
  • Diameter 42 mm

Derrick Rose wears IWC on the May 2012 cover of GQ

by amitdevhanda

It amazes me how the world of fashion has become just as important as the game to high profile NBA Players in the last five years. It’s one thing to go to fashion week, but it’s another to participate in the world of fashion and stay relevant when you shooting hoops for a living.

Much is the case for NBA Point Guard for the Chicago Bulls Derrick Rose who is graced on the latest May issue cover of GQ. Besides having an MVP and a 98 million dollar contract, Derrick Rose  is becoming well versed in the world of fashion and luxury. Years ago it was all bling and flash, but now its all about sophistication and subtle elegance. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not necessarily him who is making these decisions, it’s the stylist, but it just shows you how things change and evolve over time and at 23 years old Derek Rose is gracing the cover of GQ wearing and IWC Top Gun watch which you would have never seen before.

This is a good move for everyone because it legitimizes Derrick Rose, GQ Magazine, IWC and makes the everyday person suddenly open their eyes to a real watch brand, just by making a simple style choice for the cover of a magazine.
