Typically, when I think of a cruise ship, I don’t think about being able to purchase a fine timepiece like IWC on it . It’s official, IWC has launched their latest boutique on the Mariner of the Seas cruise ship. This is a first for IWC and quite a pioneering and bold on their part. According to IWC CEO George Kern, “We are pleased to announce the first IWC boutique to launch on a cruise ship and we look forward to welcoming guests from around the globe to experience this exciting milestone along with IWC.”

This new boutique will house all six families that IWC has in it’s collection and will combine all  the elements of dark and white wood, glass, leather and polished stainless steel, to reinforce their brand Identity, with their core values of technical ingenuity and engineering.

I would like to sincerely congratulate IWC for this amazing new venture.  Having a boutique on sea will open many opportunities for the brand to expand their market and tell their incredible story. This ship has already set sail in Asia, servicing cruises out of Singapore and Shanghai, China.

I would love to hear from you. Please fill out the contact form  below with any questions or comments

James Franco wears IWC in the June 2013 issue of GQ

IWC Mark XVII

I was thumbing through the pages of the latest issue of GQ the other day and I stopped when I  noticed actor James Franco  was wearing an IWC watch. I immediately called IWC’s PR agency in NYC to find out which watch it was, but they didn’t know because they hadn’t seen the latest June 2013, GQ Magazine issue yet. They were extremely helpful and within half an hour emailed me back with a picture of the exact watch he was wearing, which is the Mark XVII.  What this tells me is that this was an organic editorial placement. Kudos to GQ and their stylist department who really know their watches.

I love how more and more IWC watches are being used in style guides and It amazes me actually and just shows how much the brand has evolved and how they are being positioned today. 10 years ago, you would never see this happen because they were more exclusive and always flew completely under the radar. IWC is a brand that has always worked under the guise of less is more. What makes this more interesting is that even with all the critical acclaim and exposure into the mainstream fashion and icon world , they are still able to hold onto their brand identity.

James Franco is an actors actor that seems to be down to earth, have passion for his craft and is a good representation of successful actors in Hollywood who can wear this watch and do it justice without making it look like its been styled for a photo shoot.

The Mark XVII is a classic case of form meets function and has been influenced by the classic pilots watch the Mark 11 that IWC made from the 1940’s. The Mark XVII is the perfect size of 41 mm and is available in stainless steel on a black crocodile strap. The date window on the dial of this new watch was adapted to look more like a cockpit instrument in an airplane, where the Arabic numerals are arranged vertically. The watch is water resistant to 50 meters and has an automatic self winding 30110 movement and has a 42 hour power reserve. My favorite part of this whole equation, is that you are being able to buy into the IWC brand, get into one of their most iconic utilitarian timepieces all for under five grand.

IWC Portuguese Platinum “Tribeca Film Festival” watch

On April 10th, 2013 the IWC Platinum Portuguese unique 1/1 “Tribeca Film Festival” watch was auctioned of in NYC by Antiquorum auctioneer’s.  This watch was estimated to fetch between $20,000-$30,000 at auction, but I am thrilled to report that this watch sold for a whopping $60,000!

IWC have done something completely remarkable by auctioning off this watch and giving 100% of the proceeds to the Tribeca Film Fund. Their belief and supports for the arts, especially in Film and the future of young film makers is such an amazing gesture of hope and gratitude. I truly commend IWC for their humanity and incredible watch making and I will continue to passionately wear their products and write about their journey.

As I was watching the 2013 MTV Movie Awards last night, I spotted actor Bradley Cooper wearing a stainless steel IWC Big Pilot’s Watch.  I would like to congratulate Bradley Cooper who was the recipient of 2 MTV Movie Awards. He was dressed casually but was still wearing some sort of expensive flight jacket as he is holding the mic with one hand and his golden popcorn award with the other, you could see a glimpse of the side profile of one the most iconic watches out there today in my opinion, The IWC Big Pilot’s Watch in stainless steel.

This is great for IWC once again, having their icon on one of the hottest actors in the world. Today, celebrities don’t necessarily want glamor and opulence on their wrists, but quality and timelessness. I know Bradley Cooper has great taste in watches and he has further confirmed this by wearing one of my favorite timepieces of all time. Even though the IWC Big Pilot is anything but subtle in size, its a true classic and a real mans watch with real mechanical guts and heart.
