Andy Warhol is my favorite artist of all time and has been an obsession of mine for the last 15 years. He was one of the most fascinating people the world ever saw as well as the embodiment of the Ultimate Icon and Pop Artist. I was thrilled to learn recently that Andy Warhol liked to collect watches and actually wore a Rolex Watch.

The watch he wore was a 1940’s Rolex Oyster Perpetual in rose gold. Andy Warhol was not the original owner, he purchased it from a man named Russell Brown, that’s why that name is engraved on the case back and not Andy Warhol’s.

This watch is quite handsome and clean. I must say Andy Warhol had very good taste. I am not sure about the bracelet though. The characteristics of this watch include: an 18k 33 mm rose gold case, fitted with an early “bubble back” automatic movement,  a stainless steel and rose gold “bypass” bracelet that he purchased after he purchased the watch. The rose gold in the bracelet resembles the rose gold in the case, but is not an exact match as this is not the original bracelet. The dial reeks simple, elegant, sophisticated and timeless as it is silver with rose gold Arabic numerals and steel blued hour and minute hands for contrast. The sub-second hand was perfectly placed above the six o’clock position between the hour and minute hands to complete the entire aesthetic.

In 1988, Andy Warhol’s Rolex was auctioned off by Southeby’s for $1,800. This watch has been in private possession ever since and only resurfaced 6 months ago where it sold for an estimated $35,000 by
