Rolex opens a new boutique operated by Wempe Jewelers in the Rolex Building in NYC

by amitdevhanda

The mighty watch power house that is Rolex has taken a vertical approach in the last couple of years by partnering with their selected long time authorized retailers by opening Rolex Boutiques all over the world.

In the United States, Rolex Headquarters are in NYC and has been for years. The Rolex Building in NYC located at 665 Fifth Avenue, between 52nd and 53rd street is just as iconic a location as the prestigious Waldorf Astoria Hotel. This is the newest location for the launch of their latest boutique which is operated by long time retail partner, German Jeweler Wempe.

To have 600 plus Rolex Watches on hand is no joke. I like the strategy of Rolex, they want to work with their retail partners and grow long term and by investing in such a partnership like this solidifies that. Wempe is a world renowned partner of many brands, but this boutique is one of the biggest feathers in Wempe’s cap because it’s one of if not the best location in the world. It also gives them the added bonus that all after sales service needs can be met quicker than any other retail partner because they are in the Rolex Building where they can direct clients to go for after care. 5 years ago, this was something I never thought I would see but now that it’s happening, it just shows you no matter how conservative Rolex may be as a brand in many ways, they are arguably the most powerful watch brand in the world for a reason!

Did you know the cast of the Cosby Show wore Rolex Watches?

by amitdevhanda

If you were a product of the eighties like me, then the Cosby Show was integral part of your household. The show is still great, and had one of the biggest impacts on American Society and Pop Culture. For eight years the show broke barriers and stereotypes from 1984-1992. This show was definitely ahead of it’s time because of the legendary visionary genius of Bill Cosby.

Today when we watch TV,  it’s all about product placement and it’s in your face and very contrived and deliberate. The Cosby Show was not only ahead of it’s time for it’s writing, social issues, music, art, culture and parenting but also subtle product placement.

Though they never made reference to it on the show, everybody on that show wore a Rolex Watch. Bill Cosby wore a Rolex an 18k white gold Day/Date, his co-star Phylicia Rashad wore a ladies 18k yellow gold presidential, while the children even wore stainless steel 36 mm and 31 mm Mid-Sized Datejusts. For those times and today they are still expensive watches, but on the Cosby Show they made it classy elegant and subtle by having it in the background. It shows you that even at those times they could have shown them driving in expensive cars, that was never a priority. They very cleverly showed value by investing the entire family in Rolex.

by amitdevhanda

Today, June 6, 2012, Omega launched the  new Seamaster Planet Ocean 600 Meters SKYFALL, in support for the latest installment of the new James Bond movie SKYFALL.  This is the seventh partnership in the James Bond Franchise that Omega will be a part of.

This watch has become just as iconic as the movie itself. Omega has done a fine job with branding and collaborating with such a legendary franchise. Watch Enthusiasts and collectors alike often refer to Seamaster as the Bond watch, so the partnership has become stronger than ever.

The new Seamaster Planet Ocean 600 Meters SKYFALL boasts technological innovation.  Aside from OMEGA’s industry-changing Co-Axial technology, the watch is equipped with an “Si14” silicon balance spring. It’s official, Rolex announced their price increase today, June 1, 2012

by amitdevhanda

The most common question asked today at authorized Rolex dealers are why can’t I get the old price? Many Rolex collectors and new Rolex buyers were stunned when Rolex officially went up in price today by at least 6% across the board. For those of you who read my article yesterday, saw that I wrote the price increase would take affect between June 1-15. It just so happens that the prices went up today.

Rolex doesn’t mess around! They take their price increases very seriously which in turn so does the authorized dealer. As at may appear that it’s not fair and the dealer should honor the old price, especially because the watches they have in stock were purchased by them at the old price, Rolex has gotten much more strict about their policies and pricing especially with their authorized retailers. Rolex have gone from almost 1000 doors in the US to 600 doors to control distribution and price. Anybody who already has purchased a Rolex watch in the last  year or before benefits from the price increase because the value of their timepiece has gone up.  It amazes me how no matter how much this brand goes up year after year in price, people pay it no matter what. If you think about it Rolex is not just a timepiece, it’s currency!

The Omega MoonWatch with Co-Axial movement is the best valued chronograph in the watch industry

by amitdevhanda

The Omega SpeedMaster Moon Watch is absolutely legendary! I have always wanted to own this watch. It’s extremely cool, historic and iconic. Omega really stepped up to the plate in the last year when they released this watch with the in house co-axial escapement movement, bigger case size and date function.

The Rolex Stainless Steel Daytona has always gotten so much attention because it’s something you can’t get. but this Omega Stainless Steel Moon Watch is practically 30 percent less in retail and ten times the watch in quality aesthetics and reliability than the Stainless Steel Daytona.

If this watch was made by Rolex or any other luxury watch brand the retail would be at least between $15,000-$20,000. Everything from the case, the dial, the movement and pushers are executed flawlessly. This superior movement is so well finished it belongs in watches valued three to four times of this watch. The price tag of this incredible machine is $8,700, making this the best pure valued chronograph in the watch industry!
